The University of Alberta's Writer-in-Residence Program
The University of Alberta's Writer-in-Residence Program fosters the interchange of
ideas and perspectives between individuals within the literary community,
strengthening the creative drive of various writers.
As the longest continuously running program of its kind in Canada, the University of
Alberta program strives to link established authors with other Albertan writers,
thereby promoting a stimulating environment for both parties. During their stay, the
writer-in-residence becomes a member of the University community. Activities
include:
-
Maintaining office hours (two half-days per week)
to consult with members of the writing community and provide advice, critiques on writing samples,
and information on getting manuscripts
published
-
Making
appearances at organizations to speak about writing and conducting
workshops
-
Conducting readings at the University and within the community
-
Visiting literature and creative writing
classes
-
Pursuing
their own writing projects
