The Banff Centre

Nestled in the majestic Rocky Mountains, The Banff Centre is an educational institution that provides artists with resources to stimulate thought and inspiration. Dedicated to promoting the arts and  leadership development, the Centre offers a wide range of interesting and unique programs geared towards various areas of interest, including several writing and publishing programs.

Banff CentreThe self-directed writing residency program provides an excellent opportunity for writers to research and experiment with their craft in the serene mountain environment. The creative non-fiction and cultural journalism program allows eight senior journalists and writers the opportunity to explore topics of personal significance. A six-month program entitled the ' Wired Writing Studio' features two weeks of campus participation, where writers may interact with fellow classmates, established writers and editors. Following the two-week period, the program continues in an on-line format for 20 weeks. The ' Writing Studio' program differs from the 'wired' version in that individuals physically join a community of writers instead of consulting each other on-line. The ' Writing with Style' workshop offers writers of varying ability, the opportunity to work with an experienced editor and further develop their written voice.

The Banff Centre's writing and publishing department offers additional programs that operate in collaboration with other related organizations. The Banff Book Discussion for example, is held at the Centre and stimulates thoughtful discussion about various books of interest.
