REALTORS® Association of Edmonton Today

Today, the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton serves over 3,200 members in the greater Edmonton area. The Association is responsible for administering the Multiple Listing Service® for Edmonton and area, offering educational courses for Edmonton-based REALTORS® and enforcing a strict Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Practice through their Arbitration and Professional Standards Committee.

Since 1985, the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton has operated Real Estate Weekly, a tabloid that provides real estate listings for Edmonton and area, and articles and editorials on the real estate industry, providing information about its history, the community of REALTORS®, and the broader Edmonton community. Real Estate Weekly is distributed every Thursday with the Edmonton Sun and in newsstands. The articles are also accessible online, through the Real Estate Weekly website.

In addition to these services, the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton also takes a political interest in issues related to the real estate industry, through the Canadian Real Estate Association’s Political Action Committee (PAC) and the Alberta Real Estate Association’s Alberta Political Action Network (ARPAN). The Association actively supported legislation to allow home buyers to use portions of their RRSP funds to help purchase their new home and recently, the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton lobbied to raise the loan limit. The Association also calls on governments to help the private sector redevelop brownfields (neglected and/or abandoned sites) and to address the lack of affordable housing in Albertan communities.

The REALTORS® Association of Edmonton is greatly involved in charitable initiatives in Edmonton and Area, mainly through sponsorship of community programs. The Association was a founding sponsor of EPCOR’s BrightNights Festival of Lights; funds raised by the BrightNights festival go to Edmonton’s School Lunch Program, providing hot school lunches to underprivileged children. The REALTORS® Association of Edmonton also runs the REALTORS® Association Community Investment program, a funding program that provides assistance to various community groups involved in arts and culture, national heritage, volunteerism and human services.

In addition to these community endeavors, the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton serves the community through its charitable foundation, the REALTORS® Community Foundation. Operating since 1986, the Foundation has given over $1.6 million dollars back to the Edmonton and area community to help provide shelter, end homelessness, and prevent crime. One of the foundation’s most recent projects was building a Habitat for Humanity Home for a low income family. In 2005, the foundation started the REALTORS® & Friends Ride for KIDS, a motorcycle-riding fundraising to raise money for youth-related programs like the Youth Emergency Shelter Society and Edmonton’s School Lunch Program.
