Granting Institutions
Film and new media arts comprise a significant portion of Alberta's cultural
heritage. Through the production of film and the development of new media
arts, many artists have been given the chance to express themselves from a distinctly
Albertan point of view. In order to produce and subsidize those involved in
films, television shows, web pages, animation and graphic art, funding is
required. Thankfully, many granting institutions are dedicated to offering
financial support for films and new media artistic endeavours.
The
Development Information Program
provides funding for projects aimed at furthering Canadian
international development. The main component of the program, 'the mass media initiative',
helps to fund prime-time television and
radio programs. Telefilm is a
federal agency that provides funding for the development and promotion of
the Canadian film, television, new media and music industries. Support from
Telefilm sustains the production of high quality work that reflects Canadian
lifestyles.
Other granting bodies include the Alberta Film Development
Program, which provides funding to cover film expenditures made within the
province and A-Channel, also committed to the
Alberta film and television industry, offers the Television Broadcast Fund
for producers of television, films and mini-series to apply for grants.
