Alberta College of Art and Design

First WaveCalgary's Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) is one of only four degree-granting, publicly funded art and design colleges in Canada. Founded in 1926, it was originally a part of the Provincial Institute of Art and Technology (now SAIT). Then known as the Alberta College of Art, it became a separate institution in 1985. 10 years later, the school was granted degree accreditation and the name was changed to its present form.

More than 1,000 full-time students attend the college, with nearly 700 more enrolled in the credit and non-credit continuing education classes. Two degree programs are offered: a bachelor of fine arts or a bachelor of design. Through these programs, students are able to specialize in their chosen field. Classes are offered in liberal studies, fine arts, design, new media and digital technology.
