Calgary Real Estate History

Calgary Tower

The story of Calgary’s growth is the story of the growth of its real estate industry; the sputtering beginnings of a real estate board within the city, the rebirth of the Calgary Real Estate Board in 1943, and its post-war growth into a vital part of the city’s industry, parallels the growth of Calgary from a small ranching town into an international metropolis. The following seven articles document the economic developments that transformed Calgary from the western divisional headquarters of the Canadian Pacific Railway and the heart of Alberta’s ranching industry, into the economic capital of Alberta and the oil capital of Canada.
