Ephrem Brisebois

Ephrem Brisebois In 1873, this well traveled soldier from Drummondville Quebec became one of the nine commanding officers of the North West Mounted Police (NWMP). Fort Brisebois was renamed Fort Calgary in June 1876, a change recommended by his superior officer.

He resigned from the NWMP in 1876. Brisebois returned east and became a Conservative politician. He then became the land titles officer for an area of Saskatchewan. Brisebois organized white and Métis defense forces during the North-West Rebellion of 1885. After this, he continued as a land titles officer.

Brisebois moved to Winnipeg where he died. He was buried at St. Boniface.
