France Levasseur-Ouimet

France Levasseur-OuimetFrance Levasseur-Ouimet was one of the first group of women to study at Saint-Jean's École de pédagogie in 1962. After completing her B.Ed. degree she returned to Saint-Jean where she taught high school for three years. She then completed a Masters in French Canadian Literature in 1977 and a Ph.D. in Secondary Education from the University of Alberta in 1982. She taught at St. Jean until her retirement in 2004. She was named Writer in Residence and Professeur Emeritus.

She completed many projects for and with members of the Francophone community. France prepared historical tours, presentations, workshops, radio programs, films and brochures. One project was the preparation of a historical map of the Francophone communities in Alberta. France has written four historical books, a collection of short stories, many articles about the Franco-Albertan community, and stage plays. She assisted and organized many theatre groups including le Théâtre français d'Edmonton. She has also written many songs, which have been performed and published.

She has been awarded excellence at the Faculté Saint-Jean and by the Government of Quebec.
