The Banff Centre
The Banff Centre offers a number of new media programs and
services in addition to its wide array of other arts related courses.
Television production has been available through the centre since the 1970s. In
the 1990s, the program was offered as a part of the media and visual arts faculty.
In response to a growing demand, new labs were built equipped with 3D
visualization tools. The program expanded to include other new media arts and was
launched as its own department in 2000.
'Creative Electronic Environment' acts as a technological resource centre for all
areas of the school, offering state of the art television and video production
studios and interactive media technical support. Professionals will assist in the
development of digital art, audio and video streaming as well as website
construction.
The Banff New Media Institute provides research opportunities, commissions,
summits and workshops as it relates to technology in the arts. The professional
workshops offered through the institute deal with all aspects of new media
including art, research, technology, financing, publishing and distribution.
Research summits act as a forum for people of different disciplines to gather
and discuss technological and new media issues.
