Prosper Edmond Lessard

Prosper Edmond LessardLessard left Cranbourne Quebec to seek his fortune in the Klondike gold rush. He stopped in Edmonton on his way there. He took a job with Joseph Gariepy, a prominent businessman. The firm of Gariepy and Lessard became a prominent real estate business. Lessard helped start the weekly Le Courrier de l'Ouest newspaper, and was involved with many Francophone and school councils.

Lessard was elected as as MLA for three terms from constituencies in the St. Paul area. In 1925 he was named a Liberal senator for Alberta.

He died in April 1931, and his funeral was at St- Joachim in Edmonton.
