Albert Lacombe

Albert Lacombe Albert Lacombe was one of the most influential and well-known figures of early Canada. For over 60 years he acted as a missionary, peacekeeper, negotiator, pioneer, spiritual leader, and teacher to those around him.

Lacombe assisted at ministries in North Dakota, Quebec, and Red River. Lacombe's life is categorized by significant accomplishments in language, religion, and politics through his years of service as an Oblate Father. He helped establish St. Albert, and founded St.-Paul-des-Cris and Saint Paul des Métis. St. Albert was named for Lacombe's patron saint.

He worked tirelessly to promote peace and Christianity. He nursed the sick, traveled when necessary, and lived amongst the warring Cree and Blackfoot. Lacombe was an advocate for French settlement in the West. He worked hard for French educational rights in Western Canada. The CPR named a town in his honour for his significant contributions.

He remained a dedicated public figure up to his death. Father Lacombe is buried in the crypt under the Holy Family Parish in Saint Albert
