Lloydminster Real Estate History

Lloydminster is Canada’s border city, crossing the Alberta-Saskatchewan border on the fourth meridian. Its location has made the city an ideal transportation hub for good running between Edmonton and Saskatoon. Lloydminster had a start relatively late start; its first settlers were the Barr Colonists who came with a strength of 2000 in 1903.

Lloydminster, and its surrounding area is known for its vast reserves of heavy oil, contributing to construction of asphalt and other petroleum product-based industries. Lloydminster’s oil industry allowed this small border town, which was once both a village in Alberta and a town in Saskatchewan, to become a city after the Second World War.

With an ever growing population of over 25,000, Lloydminster has a vital real estate industry, represented by the REALTORS® Association of Lloydminster & District. Incorporated as the Lloydminster Real Estate Board in 1978, this association represents REALTORS® in both Saskatchewan and Alberta, including Vermilion and Wainwright.
