Visual representation of nature's laws

The Nature's Laws Project was developed in a partnership involving the Heritage Community Foundation and representatives of First Nations from Treaty 6, 7 and 8.

The Foundation acknowledges the financial support of the Alberta Law Foundation for the Nature's Laws Project.  This support was instrumental in making the project possible. Owen Snider, Executive Director, and his successor David Aucoin, assisted project staff through excellent advisory on project development and implementation.

The Community Mobilization Program, Canadian Justice, provided funding support for the Nature's Laws: Aboriginal Youth Identity Project, which developed five Edukits (multimedia learning resources for teachers and students), which can be found at www.edukits.ca. Engaging the next generation in the history, traditions and culture of First Nations is essential in building individual and community identity and pride as well as promoting cross-cultural learning and understanding.

The Nature's Laws Project Team contributed extensive volunteer time to the Project, which could not have been otherwise accomplished. The Senior Aboriginal Research Consultant is Chief Wayne Roan, Elder and Ceremonialist.  The Senior Academic Consultant is Earle Waugh, Ph.D., Director, Dimic Research Institute and Professor Emeritus, Religious Studies, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada.  The Legal Consultant was Catherine Twinn, B.A., LL.B., LL.M., First Nations legal practitioner and historian. The project was managed by Adriana A. Davies, Ph.D., Executive Director, Heritage Community Foundation.

Thanks also are owed to the Trustees and staff of the Heritage Community Foundation, which made the project possible.

The Heritage Community is an educational trust with the mission to link people with heritage through discovery and learning. The Foundation collectively does what few can do individually — we tell the story of Alberta. As a central resource, we bring the evolution of Alberta as a unique and dynamic province to life We are an abundant source for historic facts, stories and images with a focus on youth programs, public education, and research Our challenge is to make the study, preservation and understanding of Alberta's heritage easily accessible, viable and ongoing

We are pioneers in making heritage accessible via the World Wide Web. Through partnerships, we draw on the intellectual property of heritage institutions and organizations as well as individuals. We are dynamic partners, always aware of our responsibility to show the many perspectives of Alberta's rich and vigorous past and making it relevant to the present.

We are AlbertaSource.ca—The Alberta Online Encyclopedia ™ — an intellectual legacy project for Alberta’s centenary in 2005. Building knowledge for the next century!
