The name for this lake is descriptive as it is surrounded by a birch forest. The well-established name was made official 29 July 1986. The proposal to have the name officially adopted was forwarded by Fish and Wildlife, as they have been stocking this lake with trout for a number of years and needed it named for management purposes.
