The name for this locality, whose post office operated from August 1911 through November 1956, was taken after a number of places in the United States of the same name. They were named after a province in ancient Syria. The post office was originally called "Clarksville," after the first postmaster, Lewis G. Clark.

Approximately 18 km north-west of St.Paul.
