Bailey's Bottom

Category : Flood Plain

This floodplain derives its name from Jim Bailey who homesteaded the land around the turn of the century. The Baileys, Jim and Mabel, were Irish and Scottish, respectively. In 1902, they lost all their belongings when the Oldman River flooded, and in 1904, Bailey filed on SE-34-8-22. Mrs. Bailey taught school in the area. Both Baileys were well-liked and had a reputation for being very sociable. The name was officially approved 5 May 1987.
