Linda Campbell

Linda Campbell is a descendant of the Black pioneers of Alberta. She is an active member of her community as an entrepreneur, educator, and member of the Black Pioneer Descendants' Society.

Linda has a diploma in Rehabilitation Studies Level 2 from Grant MacEwan College in Edmonton and a Bachelor of Community Rehabilitation (BCR) degree from the University of Calgary. She uses her education to contribute actively to her community.

For five years, she worked as a supervisor for a human services organization. While there, she voluntarily implemented ethics workshops for the staff. She has also facilitated a workshop on the subject of empowerment for staff and members of Alberta Committee of Citizens with Disabilities (ACCD). Because of her expertise and commitment to the disabled community, she was invited to participate in a national meeting of the Council of Canadian Premiers to provide input on changes to legislation.

Linda is also an active entrepreneur; she co-owns both an oilfield inspections quality control and quality assurance contracting company and a business and real estate development company. She is the director, executive assistant, and office manager for both companies.

Linda believes it is vital to be an active part of her community and, because of this, she has done extensive volunteer work. She has developed the Vocational Literacy Mentoring Program for the Environmentally Challenged and also volunteers her time as an active member of the Black Pioneer Descendants' Society. Linda has been an interim secretary, member of the board, strategic planning facilitator, advisor, and researcher for the Society. In addition, she has served as the director of the Society’s art and music archives, senior and youth community liaison officer to the board, and chairperson of the 2005 Centennial Project commemorating Black settlement in Alberta.

For the Centennial Project, she worked as an editor for the Black centennial cookbook, One Hundred Years—A Little Taste of Soul. In 2004, Linda also served as a hostess for the Black Pioneers Descendants' Society's Soul Food Supper, an annual event held every February in Edmonton.

Linda Campbell currently lives in Edmonton. She is still an active member of the Black Pioneer Descendants' Society and also enjoys singing with the Black Pioneer Heritage Singers.
