Made in Alberta!

Successful inventions make our day-to-day activities easier and more economical, but they also move the seemingly impossible into the realm of the possible. The intellectual and creative journey inventors undertake to solve functional problems and practical questions encompasses the human need for invention.

It takes a visionary to see potential in a specific idea and transform it into an invention or innovation. Inventors are risk-takers and critical thinkers who are curious about the human condition. The same artistic impulse that inspires painters and poets drives many inventors to move beyond the pursuit of new knowledge to construct useful tools that improve our quality of life. Others invent to fill a need for creative expression.

James Gosling

One innovator in Alberta is James Gosling who developed Java, a computer language used all over the Internet. Another innovative mind is Bruce Nodwell, inventor of the Nodwell 110, a vehicle that can carry large loads into the northern wilderness and across muskegs. This invention allowed for oil exploration in areas that were difficult to access. Dr. Karl Clark is still another inventor who has changed the world. He worked with existing methods for separating oil sands so people could tap their extraordinary oil potential.

Many other men and women from Alberta have transformed the way we think and function through invention and innovation. They have each transformed their corners of the world and helped us see life and living with new eyes.

Did you know that two inventive minds from Calgary, Alberta, came up with a three-dimensional recording technology known as Q-Sound? Q-Sound has been used on the recordings of such famous music artists as Madonna and Sting!  Read all about Alberta’s inventive minds in the Alberta’s Inventors and Inventions website, another fine innovation on www.AlbertaSource.ca, Alberta’s Online Encyclopedia!
