Grade 7 Teacher Zone - Generalization and Rationale

Generalization

Communication in all its forms is the means by which culture is learned

Rationale

The Métis people are a unique and vital cultural group in Canadian society. However, little is commonly known about Métis culture, history and traditions. Many Albertans do not know that the Métis people have their own unique language known as Michif. It is important that students understand that language is an important element of culture and communication, and that Métis people have a traditional language.
