Welcome to Alberta's Natural Resources

Bellevue Mine

West Canadian Collieries mine entrance, Bellevue, Alberta, 1905. The Bellevue Mine, managed by the Crowsnest Pass Ecomuseum Trust, offers tours coordinated through the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre. Explore miners' actual working conditions in a mine used from 1903 to 1962.

Visitors can don a miners' helmet, lamp, and strap on a battery pack to take a walking tour into the actual tunnel (336 metres). Enter the fascinating world of an underground coal mine through approximately 100 metres of the mine's main rock tunnel, and into 200 metres of the coal seam itself. Temperature in the mine is approximately 7 degrees Celsius, so wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear.

The site contains original mine artifacts while mine interpreters explain the techniques of underground mining. Outside you can learn about the machinery used inside and outside coal mines.
