Listen to stories of train robberies, a bootlegger, and the infamous shootout at the Bellevue Café. See the beauty of the landscape and the towering mountains. Find out about early underground coal mining. 

At 4:10 a.m. on April 29, 1903, the worst coal mining tragedy in Canada took the lives of an estimated 70 people. The interpretive centre presents the history of the area, and the stories of the people. See the famous Turtle Mountain, which covers the town of Frank, Alberta. Tour through guided walking paths led by knowledgeable and friendly interpreters. 

The interpretive centre also makes use of varied media, such as slide shows, dramatizations, audio clips, illustrative demonstrations, and an award-winning audio-visual presentation of "In the Mountain's Shadow." The poignant stories help visitors learn about the area and the people. Hear the harrowing tales of loss and survival amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Canadian Rockies. 

The centre also has a gift shop and is wheelchair accessible. It is located one kilometre off Highway 3 in the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass.
