Insect and Disease Control: Biocontrol Technologies

ARC is one of 17 research centres invited to work as part of the Canada's newly established Biocontrol Network. The network aims to replace pesticides used in agriculture and forestry with innovative treatments based on natural biocontrol agents (insects, bacteria, fungi and viruses) in coordinated, synergistic ways to control insects and disease. The network responds to increased environmental, health and food safety concerns, resulting from widespread use of chemical pesticides, and supports the need to develop alternative pest control methods. 

ARC's research in integrated pest management and biocontrol technologies complements the objectives of the Biocontrol Network and its collaborators. Commercial partners, growers, and producers of biocontrol agents will benefit as a result of a competitive advantage on the international scene.
