Responsible Pest Management

An ARC program to manage blackleg disease in canola has saved canola farmers about $40 million a year over the past decade. In addition to disease monitoring and seed testing, ARC scientists have conducted research on cultural controls, including a fungicide, which was recently registered. New research, jointly funded by the Alberta Canola Producers' Commission and the Alberta Agriculture Research Institute, will be undertaken this year to develop more environmentally friendly and economical biological controls.
