Forestry
Alberta is fortunate in its wealth of natural resources, including
forests. Government and forest industries alike have recognized the
importance of responsible development of Alberta's forests. Steps have
been taken to care for this resource so that it is here for generations to
come. Steps such as reforestation, inventories and fire prevention are
some of the things being done.
There is more to protecting and
sustaining our forests than meets the eye. Much work has been done toward
examining all the options and possible consequences of protecting and
cultivating Alberta Forests. Essentially a balance must be found between a
human free forest and a forest over-run or overdeveloped by people. We now
recognize that although we undeniably need the forest and its resources, we also
need to take care of that resource.
The issues facing governments and
industries concerning resource development are complex. These are just
some examples of research being done to develop the resources we need in a
responsible manner.
