Auditor General

While the origin of the Provincial Auditor's Office dates back to 1905, the Office of the Auditor General, as we know it today, was established in 1978.  The Auditor General is the auditor of all government ministries as well as Provincial agencies, including advanced education institutions and most regional health authorities.  The Auditor General's office employs approximately 125 people.

The Auditor General is accountable to the members of the Legislative Assembly.  The Auditor General's office provides assurance services to the public regarding government performance reporting, including spending.  The Office also provides independent advice in the form of recommendations designed to improve the use of public resources.

The Auditor General submits an annual report to the Legislative Assembly and may be asked to perform special duties.  Depending on the terms of these special duties, reports and recommendations may be issued.
