The Palestinian Refugees
One of the great tragedies that came out of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war was the displacement of the Palestinian Arab population, creating a huge refugee population that still exists.
The Arabs have claimed that the Palestinians were forced from their homes during the war by the Israeli military. Israel, on the other hand, has claimed that Arab leaders advised the Palestinian Arabs to leave in order to avoid the imminent fighting. Many Palestinians left the war conditions at the time with the expectations that they would soon return.
The Palestinian refugees are the only group of refugees that are without a state they can return. They are the only group of refugees that the United Nations specifically devote resources through the UN Works Relief Agency.
Many Palestinians value education and work in all the
professions, which was not possible in the Palestinian
Occupied Territories. The loss of an individual's right to
practise their profession is considered a human rights
violation. Many Palestinian professionals had
to find other places to practise their professions after
the Independence of Israel.
