The Roadmap to Peace

The Road Map to Peace was developed by the United States, the European Union, Russia, and the United Nations as a means to attaining peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The plan was outlined for the first time by the U.S. President, George W. Bush on 24 June 2002. It called for the creation of an independent state of Palestine to be created along side of Israel. This was a significant event as it was the first time that an U.S. president had called for the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

Central to the creation of the state of Palestine was that the Palestinian National Authority established democratic reforms and stopped supporting terrorism. Israel was required to support the creation of Palestine and cease all settlement activity in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
