Ranger Oil

Ranger Oil was an Alberta based company with its main office in Calgary. Originally under Maygill Petroleum Company Ltd., Ranger Oil was created in 1950 with the mission to explore and develop oil and gas formations in North America. In 1956, Jack Pierce was named the first president and personality behind the creation of Ranger; he incorporated it in 1958. The company continued to build land inventory in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Tragically, Mr. Pierce died in 1991. Ranger Oil continued on, but by 1999 was weakened by months of depressed crude-oil prices and high-interest debt. In 2000, Petrobank Energy and Resources Limited made an offer for all of Ranger Oil, however the company instead accepted an offer from Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. of $650 million. Ranger Oil closed its doors in August of 2000. For more information on Canadian Natural Resources Ltd., please visit their site at http://www.cnrl.com/
