Canadian Gas Association (CGA)

Founded in 1907, the Canadian Gas Association (CGA) mandate is to act on the behalf of its members on policy positions and national issues. The CGA is made up of over 200 companies, organizations, and individuals who are involved in the delivery of natural gas in Canada and the United States. Members include local gas distribution companies, transmission companies, related equipment manufacturers, and other service providers. CGA members supply energy to 39 percent of Canada’s commercial sector, 48 percent of the residential sector, and 51 percent of the manufacturing sector.

The objective of the Canadian Gas Association is to help create efficient energy markets, develop energy industry policy positions, increase the level of innovation, and improve stewardship and corporate responsibility with an emphasis on safe and reliable options. To achieve these objectives, CGA develops energy industry policy positions, and makes submissions to organizations such as parliamentary committees and the Council of Energy Ministers. CGA also produces educational and environmental information for consumers and organizes training schools, workshops, seminars, and conferences. In addition, the CGA sponsors an Annual Natural Gas Forum to facilitate communication between companies and individuals.
