Oil

Oil RigThe problem with crude oil is that it contains hundreds of different types of hydrocarbons mixed together. The crude oil is processed first on field sites called batteries. These are tanks with saltwater and sand, and the natural gas bubbles to the top which cleans the oil. The gas is either captured to be used or flared out. The oil sits in the middle of the tank where it is then piped out to tanks. The sand used in the process is taken to landfills. The saltwater is reinjected into the tank to keep the pressure up.
