Norm McIntyre

In the course of his career, Norm McIntyre has been one of the builders of the modern Canadian oil and gas industry, just as he has been one of the builders of Petro-Canada since joining the company over 20 years ago…We owe Norm a large debt of gratitude for his exemplary contribution to the corporation, to the industry, and to the community. Ron Brenneman, president of Petro-Canada

Norman F. McIntyre retired in 2004. His career in the petroleum industry spanned almost forty years. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering, and has a Master of Science degree in Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. McIntyre spent fifteen years with Mobil Oil in engineering and operations positions, onshore and offshore in Canada and the United States.

McIntyre joined Petro-Canada in 1982, with responsibilities for the company’s growth in the frontier regions. He became Vice-President of Frontier Development, then of Production. In 2002, he was asked to take the helm and became President of Petro-Canada. McIntyre had experience in all aspects of the industry, from overseas operations to upstream opportunities in Canada, including the Athabasca oil sands and Western Canada gas.

He has balanced a commitment to the petroleum industry and to the community throughout his career. In June 2000, he served as Canadian Chairman of the Organization for the World Petroleum Congress held in Calgary. He has been the Chairman of the Calgary United Way Campaign, and Chairman of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. As well, he is a past board member of the Canadian Energy Research Institute (CERI); past Chairman of the Centre for Cold Ocean Research and Engineering (C-CORE); past director of Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd; and past director of Syncrude Canada Ltd. Norman McIntyre’s leadership roles in the community and his commitment to research in the petroleum industry continues to influence the corporate world today.
