Helen R. Turgeon

Helen R. Turgeon is one of many women who have had a positive influence on the oil and gas industry. Originally from Saskatchewan, Turgeon attended the Balfourd Technical Colligate in Regina where she completed commercial and business courses. She then took various administrative positions in the oil industry, and spent the major part of her career with Norcen Energy Resources Limited from the 1950s to the 1980s. Turgeon also held the position of President of the Desk and Derrick Club of Calgary and the International Association of the Desk and Derrick Club in the 1970s. In all capacities, Turgeon was dedicated to the promotion of education for workers in the Canadian petroleum industry. She travelled extensively all over North America for speaking engagements on oil patch education and raised the public profile of the petroleum industry. For her commitment and efforts, Turgeon was named Canadian Oil Woman of the Year in 1984. She was also inducted into the Petroleum Hall of Fame in 2000. Helen Turgeon currently serves on the board of governors for the Petroleum Hall of Fame.
