Beginnings

Aboriginal people in Alberta have a history that traces well over 11,000 years. Archeological evidence has revealed a physical glimpse into the past with carbon dated artifacts found at the Vermilion Lakes site to 10,000 years. Oral history has provided a foundation that demonstrates an Aboriginal connection to the land since time immemorial. Testimony that includes descriptions of giants, beavers, and ancient meeting places are told by storytellers from one generation to another.

From the creation story of Weesakayjac and the champion Muskat to the successful buffalo jump that changed the buffalo hunt to the revolving meaning of Medicine Wheels, Alberta is the stage of historically significant locations that trace the centuries.
