Kleskun Hills Park
The Kleskun Hills Park is 20 kilometres east of Grande Prairie on
Highway 43, then north 3 kilometres, and west another 1 kilometre.
At the Kleskun Hills Park the visitor will find eroded remnants
of a prehistoric river delta, with specimens of marine life and
dinosaurs.
The Kleskun Hills also have historical significance as one of the
last battles of the Beaver tribe. Here there is a commemoration made
of two boulder covered mounds marking the place where five braves
fell.
The Natural History Sign, located 8 kilometres west of Bezanson
reads, "To the North and West of here are the Kleskun Hills, the
eroded remnants of a prehistoric river delta formed more than 70
million years ago with specimens of marine life and dinosaurs. At
the North eastern tip of the ridge may be seen badlands, which
developed in beds rich in decayed volcanic dust. These and the
famous Cretaceous dinosaur badlands of the Drumheller area are
outcroppings of the same underground strata."
