Treaty 6 Organizations
The need to ensure that the treaties signed between the government and the First Nations continue to be
honoured has led to the formation of a number of large-scale organizations who work on behalf of bands
and First Nations, advocating for their treaty rights. Groups such as the Confederacy of Treaty 6 First
Nations, the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations,
and the Office of the Treaty Commissioner, work
with various Treaty 6 First Nations, chiefs, councils, Elders, a
nd government groups to advocate for, and educate others about, issues related to the treaty. In addition, a
number of smaller-scale groups, including numerous tribal councils, have been created to
support First Nations and bands across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
In this section of the site, we invite you to learn more about these organizations and the significance
of their work to Aboriginal communities across the Treaty 6 area and beyond.
