Confederacy of Treaty 6 First Nations (Alberta)

Confederacy of Treaty 6 First Nations The Confederacy of Treaty 6 First Nations was founded in 1993 to act on behalf of the First Nations of Treaty 6 in a number of capacities. One of the main goals of the organization is to ensure that the original terms and intent of the treaty are honoured by the government. New legislation that may affect or violate treaty rights is closely monitored by the Confederacy. The Confederacy also advocates for the right of First Nations to self-determination and control over their own governments and political structures. By working together with other organizations, international agencies, and the Chiefs and Elders of the member nations, the Confederacy of Treaty 6 First Nations hopes to educate First Nations and the public about treaty rights and to ensure that the terms of the original treaty are met and respected.
