Video Clips

In recent times there have been a series of excellent films produced on the First Nations people of Canada.  These films often help various First Nations groups to deliver their stories to a much wider audience than was once possible and have gone a long way towards helping them to gain the recognition and respect they deserve as well as educating fellow Canadians on the First Nations lifestyle and culture. Here we are proud to showcase a few of those films including the Honour of the Crown and No Turning Back.

Honour of the Crown

It took more than a century, but the Thebatthi (Chipewyan) people of Smith's Landing, Alberta, finally held the Canadian government to its promise.

Determined to see the government honour an 1899 treaty, François Paulette devoted more than 25 years of his life to that cause. As chief negotiator for the Smith's Landing First Nation (located in northern Alberta on Slave River), François and his brother, Chief Jerry Paulette, struggled to keep their land claim process going.

Honour of the Crown is a documentary produced by the National Film Board of Canada. To order a copy of this film call 1-800-267-7710.

No Turning Back

For two-and-a-half years two teams of Aboriginal filmmakers followed the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples as it travelled across Canada, visiting more than 100 communities and hearing from 1,000 Aboriginal representatives. No Turning Back documents this historic trip. The video weaves the passionate and articulate voices of Indian, Inuit, and Métis with the history of the relationship between First Nations peoples and the Canadian government.
