The Upper Foothills Climate
At about 340 millimeters, this subregion has the highest summer
precipitation in Alberta.
The average annual precipitation is generally about 540 millimeters with
July being the wettest month. The lush vegetation that carpets the
foothills region is largely due to the fact that the region experiences a moisture
surplus during the growing season. The average temperature between May and September is about 10-12 degrees Celsius. The winters are colder than the
Lower Foothills Subregion but the Upper Foothills Subregion generally is similarly little affected by cold Arctic air masses.
