Treaty 8 Centennial Conference, 1999 |
The 100th anniversary of Treaty 8 was commemorated in 1999.
Celebrations took place on the shore of Lesser Slave Lake at the
spot where the historic signing of the treaty took place in 1899. Many aboriginal
people viewed the event as a way for them to bring their treaty to the
eyes of media and non-Native people as well as to stress that the
agreements terms mean as much to them now as they did 100 years ago and should
be fulfilled.
