Flanders Field
Flanders Field borders Belgium and France, near the town of Ypres, where many major battles of World War I were fought. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers died in the trenches there before the end of the war. Today the area is home to many museums and war memorials. Flanders Field is also famous because of a Canadian surgeon who was stationed there. Major John MacCrae wrote the poem “In Flanders Field” shortly after a good friend was killed in battle. It stands today as one of the most famous poems about World War I. Alex Decoteau was buried in Flanders Field at Ypres, Belgium.
