Wildlife of the Peace River Parkland Subregion is similar to that of the adjacent
boreal forest mixedwood subregions. Few animals of Central Parkland grassland
habitats are present. Lakes and ponds of the Peace River Parkland constitute a major nesting area for the rare
trumpeter swan. Three species of fish barely range into Alberta along the upper Peace River: redside shiner, northern squawfish and longscale sucker.
