Dickson Store Museum
The Dickson Store Museum is a restored, typical 1930s style General Store that offered all the basic necessities such as groceries, hardware, and dry goods. The store provided much more to its customers and to the community because it provided contact to the outside world through the Post Office, as well as a telephone service and radio.
Carl and Laura Christiansen’s store served as a gathering place and provided hospitality and shelter to new residents and visitors. Because cash was scarce, the store provided a barter system and credit accounts to the local farmers.
The restored living quarters of the Christiansen family are on the second floor. The former Post Office is now a Gift Shop that features arts and crafts by local artists, as well as souvenir plates, spoons, and pins. The restored lumber shed with its unique design is also located on the site.
The Dickson Store Museum is located 29 km west of Innisfail on Highway 54 and 3.2 km south of Spruce View. Five minutes away is Gleniffer Lake, which offers boating, swimming, and camping.
