Overseas
This section
gives an overview of the role of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF)
in the war overseas. It provides background on the state of the RCAF before World War II. It also
describes the struggle between
Canada and Great Britain over whether an overseas RCAF should
even exist, the eventual creation of an overseas RCAF
squadron
and the subsequent efforts by Canada to keep their squadrons
overseas distinctly 'Canadian'. It touches on the various
types of operations that the RCAF conducted in theatres of war around the world, from cold nights
over Europe to the sweltering heat and deadly
monsoons of Southeast Asia.
