Central Alberta Regional Museums Network Online Catalogue

Search the Collections

The Central Alberta Regional Museums Network Online Catalogue is comprised of over 3,300 images of digitized artifacts, curiosities, vehicles, and buildings. The collections include a wide range of items used by Albertans, both in their daily life and on special occasions, for work as well as for recreation.

Museums in Central Alberta have been collecting and preserving material heritage for more than fifty years. This began as an effort to preserve the vanishing agricultural past of local communities and has grown to involve more than forty museums that make up the Central Alberta Regional Museums Network (CARMN). With funding support from the Alberta Museums Association and other public and private sources, they have studied and preserved artefacts, as well as placed them in a context of meaning in permanent and temporary exhibits. However, very few artefacts can be exhibited at a given time, and the creation of the Online Catalogue makes a wide range of collections accessible to students, teachers, and the general public.

Within the collections are dishes for every occasion, shoes, including baby shoes, wedding slippers, and cleats, and a team sweater worn at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The collection of clothing comprises wedding dresses, a Solija (a traditional Norwegian dress), and the suit a minister wore when he performed weddings. Images of over 400 belt buckles are also available, including a Howard Hughes Flying Boat- Spruce Goose 1947 buckle. Tractors, curling irons, tools, dolls, and cooking utensils are only a few of the other fascinating items that are available in this digitized gallery.

Users can browse through the collection in two ways. You can search by keyword, which will search the entire collection. An example search would be "hockey sweater" or "harrows". To narrow your search to get fewer results, use small, concise words. This search will find all examples of “hockey sweater” in the entire catalogue. The other way to search is by individual collection. To do so, use the drop down menu below the search box and choose a collection, then click on the search button. All items from this particular collection will be displayed and you can use the navigation system to move through the pages.
