Central Alberta Regional Museums Network Online Catalogue

The Museums

The over forty museum members of CARMN are dispersed over Central Alberta and offer visitors a wide variety of exhibits. There are railway museums (Alberta Central Railway Museum and Canadian Northern Railway Society), Forts (Historic Fort Normandeau), nature centres (Ellis Bird Farm, Kerry Wood Nature Centre), and numerous other museums that are dedicated to recording all aspects of the heritage of their community.

The museums whose collections have been digitized showcase the diverse facets of Alberta life. The Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum pays tribute to the rich athletic history of the province, while the Norwegian Laft Hus Museum and the Danish Canadian National Museum and Gardens honour two of Alberta’s diverse ethnic groups. The Canadian Petroleum Discovery Centre and the Historic Markerville Creamery Museum trace the history of two of Alberta’s industries. The collections of the Sunnybrook Farm Museum, Dickson Store Museum, Roulston Museum, Kneehill Historical Museum, and Mountain View Museum offer a glimpse into how their communities have changed over the years.

Visitors are advised to check the hours of operation before going to visit members of the Central Alberta Regional Museum Network because many of the museums, due to their small size, are not able to be open every day.
