The Métis song

The incident surrounding the song or songs sung by the Métis during the battle, reported by Beal and MacLeod, and recorded in Dumont's account, as well as in de Tremaudan’s "Bataille de Fish Creek" and other Métis accounts, apparently took place during the period when the small group of Métis remaining were surrounded by the soldiers. This was reported by Boulton, using the term "the hornets' nest." (p. 233) This would have occurred after the desertions and the prairie fire and attempted advance. (Beale and MacLeod, p. 231, 232)
