Culture and Lifeways

In this section, we will learn about the Métis way of life, including housing, dance and music. Then we will look at how religion and education have affected their rich culture in Religious Life and Education, and learn about their beautiful clothing, sewing techniques and other crafts in the Arts and Crafts section.

Contrary to popular belief, the Métis have played an important role in the major wars that Canada has participated in. We’ll look at the contributions the Métis made in those wars in the Military Service section, and explore the health challenges facing the Metis community in the Health and Wellness Section. The Métis perspective on arts and culture will be examined in The Arts, and we’ll look at Métis Sports and Recreation in the final section of this engaging website.
