Sarcee (sar + see)

The Sarcee are an Aboriginal tribe. According to one theory the Sarcee split from the Beaver Nation and were driven south by the Cree during the mid 1700s. Similar to the Blackfoot in customs and traditions such as the Sun Dance, funeral and Marriage rites, and buffalo hunts, the Sarcee spoke in the Athapaskan language. They were known as a brave people and their territory ranged from Peace River in the north to Red Deer in the south. They eventually settled on land west of Calgary.
