American, Settlement

People from the United States played a big part in the early settlement of Alberta. American farm workers came to what is now known as Alberta in the 1880s and 1890s. Some found work on the farms in southern Alberta. Others came northward along the railways as far as Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan. By 1891 more than 1200 American people moved to Alberta to live.
