Recollections
While general histories of cultural groups may provide us with insight into what life might have been like for a particular group or during a particular era, the most informative and engaging histories are the more personal ones narrated by those directly involved in an event. Thanks to the work of historians and authors J. Brian Dawson and Nicholas Ting the stories of some of Alberta's earliest Chinese residents have been recorded in their manuscript The Chinese Experience in Canada: Life Stories for the Late 1800s to Today. Here, we would like to share with you some of these very personal vignettes of Alberta's Chinese community.
